I am currently handling import business and am not very clear about import agency fees. I would like to ask everyone, can import agency fees include freight charges? The agency I found said that the import agency fee already includes freight, but I feel something is not right and I am afraid of being ripped off. Can anyone knowledgeable explain to me whether import agency fees can normally include freight charges? If they can be included, are there any standards or precautions?

Whether import agency fees include freight charges depends on the contract signed with the agency company. In actual business, import agency fees can include freight or be calculated separately. If the agency fee includes freight, the agency company is responsible for transporting the goods to the designated location. However, it should be noted that in this case, details such as the freight calculation method, transportation route, and transportation tools should be clearly stated in the contract. For example, whether the freight is calculated by weight, volume, or a fixed amount.

If calculated separately, the import agency fee is generally the fee charged by the agency company for providing services such as customs declaration, inspection, and obtaining relevant permits for import business, while the freight is charged by the freight forwarder or shipping company based on the actual transportation situation. The choice of method should comprehensively consider factors such as cargo characteristics, transportation distance, and the agency company's reputation. Before signing the contract, be sure to communicate clearly with the agency company to avoid subsequent disputes.

Generally speaking, agency fees and freight are two different things. Agency fees are the fees for the agency company to handle import procedures and other matters for you, and freight is the cost incurred by transporting the goods. However, some agencies may include freight in the agency fee for convenience when quoting. You need to check how the contract is written. If it is not clearly written, it is best to confirm with the agency company.

However, remember to clarify the scope of transportation included, whether it is door-to-door or only to the port.

It is common for agency fees to include freight charges. The key is that you need to discuss the transportation details with the agency company in detail, such as compensation for cargo loss or delay, otherwise it will be troublesome to argue later.

Of course, freight can be included, as long as the breakdown of various fees is clearly stated in the contract. Look at the agency company's service level. If they have a good reputation, including freight may be more worry-free.
