When doing foreign trade business, there is confusion between the concepts of entrusted customs declaration and export agency. Questions arise as to whether entrusted customs declaration means export agency and the relationship and differences between the two. The best answer points out that entrusted customs declaration is not equivalent to export agency. Entrusted customs declaration is only one link in the process of export agency. Export agency covers a series of complex businesses from finding customers to collecting foreign exchange and verification, while entrusted customs declaration only targets specific matters of customs declaration.

Resolved
I'm new to the import and export industry and not very familiar with the customs clearance process. I'd like to ask everyone, is it necessary to find a customs broker for import and export business nowadays? If I find a broker, what are the advantages? What difficulties will I encounter if I handle it myself? I hope experienced friends can give me some advice so that I can better develop my business.

Whether to find a customs broker for import and export business depends on multiple factors. If you are unfamiliar with the customs clearance process, policies, and regulations, finding a customs broker is a very wise choice. Firstly, customs brokers possess rich professional knowledge and are familiar with the clearance requirements and processes for various goods, enabling them to efficiently handle various documents and procedures, significantly shortening customs clearance time. For instance, different countries have vast differences in quality standards and certification requirements for certain goods, and a broker can accurately grasp these to avoid delays due to incomplete or non-compliant documentation. Secondly, it can reduce risks. Brokers can identify and resolve potential issues in advance, reducing the risk of cargo detention and fines. Some goods may involve special regulatory conditions, and failure to handle them properly can lead to problems. Furthermore, it saves effort, allowing you to focus more energy on your core business. Of course, if your company has a professional team, and your import and export business is stable with a single product category, you can handle customs clearance yourself. However, in the early stages or when the business is complex, finding a professional customs broker like Zhongmaoda is more reliable.

Finding a customs broker is quite convenient and can save a lot of trouble. They have extensive networks and can help coordinate and resolve unforeseen situations, such as inspection failures. If you try to do it yourself, you'll be clueless and it will be too difficult to handle.

If you don't hire a broker, you'll have to spend a lot of time researching the customs clearance policies of various countries, and these policies are constantly changing. If you make a mistake, it's easy for your goods to be held up, delaying delivery and causing significant losses.

The fees for hiring a customs broker are also a factor to consider. However, compared to the potential costs of delays and fines, the fees for professional brokers are well worth it, as they can help you avoid many unnecessary losses.

Clearing customs yourself allows you to understand the process better, but when business gets busy, you really don't have that much energy to delve into it carefully. It's more hassle-free to find a broker, and they can also provide some value-added services.

If the imported or exported goods are particularly sensitive, such as those with strict quarantine requirements, a broker can easily handle them with their experience, which would be very difficult to do on your own.

If a company wants to develop its import and export business in the long term, building its own customs clearance team is also a good idea, but using a broker to familiarize yourself with the process in the initial stage is a good approach.

From a cost perspective, hiring a broker is more cost-effective for small quantities of goods. For larger volumes, building a team might be more economical in the long run, and this needs to be considered comprehensively.
