Does entrepôt trade count towards import and export figures? Find out now!
Resolved
I am in the foreign trade business and have recently encountered entrepôt trade. I have always been unclear about whether entrepôt trade counts towards import and export figures. For instance, if goods are transshipped from Country A through our country to Country B, are these goods counted as imports and exports when compiling our country's import and export data? If so, how is it calculated? I hope someone knowledgeable can help me, thank you.

Entrepôt trade has a special definition in import and export statistics. From our country's perspective, when goods are transshipped from Country A through our country to Country B, these goods are included in our country's import and export figures. In terms of calculation, when goods enter our country's customs territory, even if no substantive processing is done and they are only temporarily stored before being re-exported to Country B, they are counted as imports upon entering our country and as exports when leaving our country for Country B.
From a statistical perspective, the import and export data of entrepôt trade can reflect our country's status and role in international logistics and trade circulation. However, it should be noted that, unlike general trade import and export statistics, entrepôt trade emphasizes the flow path of goods, rather than the direct trade relationship between the final consumption place and the production place of the goods. This is of great significance for analyzing our country's trade structure and its role as a logistics hub.
